Cleveland Lead Testing: Simplified
Most Cleveland landlords are scratching their heads about this whole Cleveland lead testing process. When do I have to get my Cleveland investment properties tested for lead? How is the lead safe program enforced? What type of improvements will I have to make in order to pass the Cleveland lead testing process and when? These and many other questions can be answered at our FAQs page, "How Do I Get Lead Certifications on My Cleveland Properties?" and we also made three short videos that give you a brief overview - without needing to read through a bunch of details.
Cleveland Lead Testing: Brief Overview Videos
Mike Vakos, owner and head home inspector of Tri-County Inspections, also a landlord and a Cleveland lead tester, created these videos at a recent Cleveland property in order to help other Cleveland landlords understand the lead testing process.
- Video 1, covered in our post "What Is The Lead Clearance Test Process (CliffsNotes)" gives a brief explanation of what the Lead Clearance testing is and when you need it. https://youtu.be/s4EHCMZrTOU
- Video 2 will explain more about the first part of the Cleveland lead testing the process, the visual inspection.
- And Video 3 explains the interior swabbing process, or dust swipe samples, required to get your Cleveland Lead Safe Certificate. https://youtu.be/9JP9g045pGo
Cleveland Lead Testing Part 1: The Visual Assessment
There are two parts to the Cleveland lead testing process. Part 1 is the visual assessment. Part 2 is the interior dust swipe samples.
Visual Assessment inspects for:
- Chipping paint anywhere.
- Peeling paint on upper roof overhangs and soffits.
- Peeling paint on any window anywhere.
- Deteriorated wood with peeling paint.
- Interior water/plumbing leaks with peeling paint on finished wall surfaces.
- Exposed soil at exterior play areas (cover bare soil/dirt with mulch).
- Peeling paint on basement walls, floors or ceilings.
- Paint chips on ground, basement, window wells, and anywhere else.
If the property does not pass a visual inspection, even if the interior dust swabs were to pass, the property will not receive a lead safe certificate.
